Case Study Royal Holloway University of London George Eliot Buildings January 2018

NDA Consulting were engaged from the early design stage through to the final witnessing and handover to ensure that a fully compliant BMS solution was achieved.

NDA Consulting provided specialist support from initial design concept meetings, site surveys and recommendations, attendance at site progress meetings and attendance at all BMS witnessing activities, including bench testing of the proposed BMS interface solutions.

The George Eliot residences project comprises 56 new townhouses built at the Royal Holloway University of London campus, each townhouse contains either 9 or 12 bedrooms, the complex also includes a dedicated energy centre plus University functional areas.
The project incorporates:

The energy centre - comprising three gas boilers and a Combined Heating and Power system (CHP) with a secondary LTHW system to feed all hot water and heating to the Residence complex.
56 townhouses, each containing a dedicated Evinox Heat Interface Unit (HIU- Modusat FS300), this HIU provides heating and storage hot water to the entire townhouse. Each townhouse is provided with its own ‘ViewSmart’ room control monitor for students to evaluate temperature conditions and energy usage.

Royal Holloway Campus has a dedicated site-wide Trend BMS Network, however, the installation of individual Trend controllers within each of the 56 townhouses was not a viable option due to the prohibitive cost associated with the size of the project, therefore a purpose made BMS interface solution was proposed and provided by Evinox, the HIU supplier. The interface solution ensures stand-alone temperature control of the Evinox Heat Interface Unit whilst allowing setpoint and master control override from the Royal Holloway BMS Head-end along with alarm monitoring of the whole complex.

NDA Consulting were able to provide the additional specialist support required during this complex pioneering project, ensuring that the new interface solution met the particular site standards, the energy monitoring requirements and the initial design BMS requirements set-out within the contract documentation.
